High School Volleyball Finding Its Way

It’s not an understatement to say that 2020 has been a doozy of a year not only nationally, but locally, and for many people, personally.  There have been great highs, great lows, and an abundance of change.  That change began back in March when ACE volleyball ended it’s season prematurely due to the unknowns surrounding Covid-19.  Unfortunately, the unknowns persist, but we are getting better at navigating them.

The Mat Su Borough School District has routinely stated that they feel sports are important to the health and wellbeing of students of the MSBSD and in August, they released a district-only schedule.

With that decision, coaches and athletes have been practicing hard and games have commenced.  It’s a different season with different challenges, but it’s still volleyball.

Colony has had it rough, missing games against Redington and Palmer due to a Covid positive case at CHS in early September.  Then with a suspicious packaged delivered to a nearby synagogue, their second match against Wasilla was also postponed.  Houston is the lone team who hasn’t had a game postponed yet.

Su Valley recently began their volleyball season and will be joining the 3A tournament taking place on October 10th.

ASAA intends to host a state tournament.  Once details on the state tournament are finalized, club volleyball will hopefully be back in full swing.
